Whether or not you think your teen may be having sex:

  • Have THE TALK, even if it’s uncomfortable. Keep communication open.
  • Discuss how to make safe choices and have healthy relationships.
  • Discuss the meaning and importance of consent.
  • Share your own values, beliefs, and expectations around sex.
  • Set an appointment for your child with a trusted healthcare provider.

Our kids are having sex - like it or not. Among students surveyed in Colorado and nationally 46.7% of Colorado high school students have had sex (compared to 47.8% nationally). 33.0% have had sex with one or more partners over the last three months (compared to 35.0% nationally). 58.0% of sexually active students in Colorado reported using a condom the last time they had sex (compared to 61.5% nationally). 12.2% of sexually active students in Colroado have had sex with 4 or more people (compared to 14.9% nationally).
