Speak Out Against Campus Sexual Violence | #FightBackin5
As thousands of students prepare to return to college in the coming weeks you can fight back to help ensure that campus sexual violence is taken seriously at these institutions of higher learning and that our college-aged kids are protected.
Your letter will help educate (and empower) others by bringing the issue of campus sexual assault and what can be done to help put an end to what some have called an epidemic of sexual violence in our country’s universities.
Two federal laws – the Clery Act (requiring all colleges and universities that participate in federal financial aid programs to keep and disclose information about crime on and near their campuses) and Title IX (the federal civil rights law that prohibits sex discrimination in education) – are supposed to work together to protect students from campus sexual violence. But few students know about these laws or know their rights under them and many schools are failing to meet their obligations to students.
The Two-Minute Activist tool has been designed to make it easier for you to send a letter to the editor of your local paper in just two minutes. All of the sample talking points and other resources you need to write your letter are provided at the link.
